You can easily download books from other places, even libraries, and send to a kindle via "send to my kindle app" if you connect it to wifi, no need to actually purchase books from Amazon. If you want to truly keep it offline, definitely recommend just using calibre to send via USB cable. No jailbre

true and it allso lasts for a long time i have a kindle basic from 8 yrs ago and still runs like butter albeit the batterys down to 2 weeks. Still perfectly usable
