Start backwards from content he likes. Audio books were huge with our kids before they were reading independently. Kindle kids tablets have a ton and come with a 1 year subscription that gets access to lots of books. You can lock them down to just books / audio books. Graphic novels were also big in

Which ereaders would you recommand for a family?
Just about any android ereader will do text to speach and most have speakers. For yound people I would not buy a ereader they are very fragile and expensive for what they are. You would be better off buying a small led tablet. A ereader is really for a few purposes, if you have eye problems reading
