What are the benefits of switching to freshtomato for the asus rt-ac68u

Power user or not, the biggest advantage of going FT on your router is that Asus declared it EOL beginning of 2024 and there will be no more firmware fixes or updates. Even though Asus did in fact release firmware security fix last year for it, it's not a guarantee. Many old, EOL routers are still u

What are the benefits of switching to freshtomato for the asus rt-ac68u

finding out the ac68u supported freshtomato was the reason i got back into it. "it just works", no real forumsurfing to get things going. Then the gateway drug starts. currently im running tomato64 on a glnet flint 2 so i can do 2gbs.

Apple mobile devices suddenly can't use my Asus RT-AX53U router?

OP I'm experiencing a different issue but only on Apple hardware. Recently upgraded from Asus RT-AC68U to ASUS RT-BE88U to support my new fibre connection. Always ran Merlin firmware on them too. With the new ASUS RT-BE88U the Apple devices seem to connect fine, but after long periods on no use they

Updating my home network

I believe Merlinwrt is much like the Asus stock (it's what Merlin is based off of) but with just a few added tweaks like better vlan configurations and multiple wireless lan configuration and SSH access and better firewall configuration, and VPN. That's pretty much the same with freshtomato, it give

Dynamic IPv6 firewall configuration

i found a used asus rt ac68u and damn it's a sweet deal. i get a flash storage of 256mb to experiment with openwrt packages... The problem is though that it has broadcom drivers, so no wifi, so i had to use a dumb ap. seeing a lot of people use openwrt is so wholesome!

I Don’t Recommend Installing Asus Merlin on EOL routers

I used to own an RT-AC68U, very strong and capable device. I switched to RT-AX86U PRO but felt that Asus Merlin development was quite slow for my needs. I am now into Ubiquiti ecosystem. Overall, I am quite happy so far with that change.

Connect Ethernet wired printer to WiFi

Perfect! Just pick up another cheap ASUS router. Even second hand off eBay will do. You can get something like an RT-AC68U / AC1900 for under 30 bucks. Factory reset it, put it into wireless bridge mode or add it as an AiMesh node, plug it into your printerand you’re in business!

Can this work?

If you wire your nodes or satellite devices your performance will be faster and more stable. I have tested my internet speed directly wired to the router and to a node, and there was little or no difference in speed. However, wiring a house can be expensive. Over 15 years ago before the word mesh wa
