I went for the Asus RT-BE92U which is £220 at the moment from The Amazon. Wifi 7, works well, has all the features I need.

Wired Asus RP-BE58 ($100) would be your best choice for an extender. But if you have the money I’d buy an RT-BE92U ($220) as main router and leave current one as a wired AiMesh node.

You seem to be missing the router. The PM5311-TO is an ONT. It converts GPON to a single Ethernet jack. It doesn't have a router so you can't connect a switch to its Ethernet jack. Yeah i tried a ton of different routers out during my quest 3 days. The $600+ routers didnt seem to make a difference, in comparison to $300 ones. The limitations i found were in the headset chip. I'll probably end up getting an asus be92u again. Its on sale for $279 cad again.

I got the ASUS RT-BE92U BE9700 on sale for $190 and have been loving it so far. Works great with the Firebox m300.

Tough ask without knowing your ceiling price. I got myself an ASUS RT-BE92U that goes for $300 right now. I wanted something that's gonna be relevant for at least 4-5 years, and at that price it was a really good bang for the buck.
