Just for Show?

I almost bought one. The little screen just screams fun but when it came down to it, I just saved the money and got a GMKTEC K8 plus. The reviews for this unit rightly point out that it's really hard to do anything useful with the screen - the scaling isn't very good. The port layout on the G flip i

Recommend a bare bones DDR5 based MiniPC

I have the GMKtec K8 Plus I'm very happy with! Haven't seen problems with any Linux distros. Has dual Intel i226V 2.5GbE NIC, dual 2280 Gen4x4 M.2 slots and OCuLink for x4 PCIe projects or a 3rd Gen4x4 NVMe. https://amzn.eu/d/0eLEfAnN

What is the best minipc brand now widely loved on the market? (Beelink, AceMagic, Geekom, GMKtec, Minisforum, Aoostar)

The GMKtec K8 Plus is a very popular model for a bit more than 500$ with 32GB RAM & 1TB SSD, it got it all: 2 X USB4V1 (40 Gbps), Oculink Port for EGPU upgrade, efficient cooling design case ( Good Air flow + Dual Fans) and AMD 8845HS flawless processor with the best bang for buck igpu (AMD 780M)

Your top games to play on a 890M mini PC?

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/6617vs5113/Ryzen-7-8845HS-with-Radeon-780M-vs-Radeon-890M The 890M isn't too much different than the 780M in my GMKtec K8 Plus 8845HS and I run Steam from a 2nd Bazzite OS drive. Runs titles better than a Steam Deck while providing EmuDeck for classic conso

Considering replacing my office laptop with a mini-pc, feasible?

Higher end mini pc such as those with 8845hs are pretty powerful. Some of these machines (like gmktec k8 plus) can also use USB-C to power itself, so you run another 100 or 140w usb-c charger in your second location to save transport weight. A mini pc is basically a laptop without a screen and batte

Help me understand why you want a mini PC for gaming.

In an attempt to simplify Valve's Steam Deck handheld, Linux kernel/driver advancements and AMD RDNA integrated graphics have brought gaming to NUCs unseen by "Wintel" since 2022. The RDNA3 Radeon RX 780M Integrated graphics from my 8845HS GMKtec K8 Plus and perform close to Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti deskt

Are mini pcs suitable to run Lightroom for photo editing? If so, what would I be looking at for a purchase?

Unless your specifically looking for Windows a Mac Mini M4 is perfect for running Lightroom. Otherwise I would suggest a mini PC with AMD RDNA Radeon integrated graphics and 32GB of memory for decent results, and OCuLink if you need to take performance to the next level. An Nvidia graphics card with

Any known deals coming?

I remember when Black Friday was when the local store sold their dead inventory at or below cost so they could have cash for new inventory for Christmas. Those days are gone. These days the only computer stuff discounted is things nobody wants at the regular price. Bought a GMKtec K8 Plus this weeke
