The best starting point is possibly knowing the laptop model number to see if personal upgrades are available. Went through this with my granddaughter (and others) where the Dell given to her by work only had one 16GB of RAM running reduced performance single channel mode. Adding a matching/missing

The M7 Ultra PRO 6850U may possibly be a better choice. Better features and better serviceability in my opinion. My Brother Wants me to get him a Laptop
I've been using a mini pc with occulink. 32gb ram (ddr5), ryzen 6850h, and a 4060 ti 8gb. Gmktec m7. You can find them under $500 on Amazon sometimes. You'd spend 3/4 of that just on ram trying to build.
