Why are people disconnecting or destroying their Ring cameras?

That was a Google nest camera, not a ring one. Nest cameras record like an hour or something if you don't have the subscription. They had to do some crazy data recovery to get the footage too.

Why are people disconnecting or destroying their Ring cameras?

They also granted backdoor access to FLOCK and have since reportedly cut ties. But they also work with over 5,000 government enforcement agencies- which is to say I think they will continue to do so- but just quietly. And the recent info that’s come to light about security footage of the Nancy Guthr

I purchased a smart device 3 years ago. An update moved it to a paid subscription model, and now I can't access 80% of the features. I asked for a refund, and was threatened with legal action.

Google did the exact same thing when they took over the Nest cameras. I spent close to £1k on cameras and suddenly half the features don’t work unless you pay them a monthly fee. Lesson learnt the hard way. Now I will not buy anything requiring the cloud. Either it works standalone or can be made to

How did the FBI get Nancy Guthrie's Google Nest camera footage if it was disabled — and what does it mean for your privacy?

According to Google, once you create a Nest subscription, the cameras will continue to record even after the subscription ends. READ your Terms and Conditions--you are NOT paying Google (or Amazon et al) to record and store "your" recordings. You are paying for access to THEIR recordings. When a sub

Is anyone else tired of the "subscription-only" trend for hardware?

Google really wants you to pay a sub for it's Nest camera.

Google Nest for Home Security

I had been using Nest cameras for many years, even from before Google buying Nest. Recently I replaced every single one with another solution (currently a combination of Reolink, Ecobee and Tapo.) I was nudged into this when Google discontinued support of my original Nest (pre-Google) thermostat, re

Monthly Complaints and Rants MegaThread April 2026

I'm also having issues with Nest cameras - exclusively with 1st generation cams (two Nest Cam Outdoor models, one Nest Cam Indoor model). They all: Still power on (I have all of them on energy-monitoring plugs so I can see their power consumption in real-time), and will boot up with blue LED for a s

Migrate Nest Cameras to HomeKit Cameras

I just replaced my whole nest camera system (doorbell, 3 indoor cameras, an outdoor camera) with the Aqara g410 doorbell and g100 indoor/outdoor cameras. Everything works great, just make sure you update the firmware for each device after getting them up and running (had an issue with night vision o

Leaving Nest - best camera alternative

I just jumped ship from Google nest after years and years of using their cameras. Even before Google bought them. Fabulous camera still have three of them but I was having trouble getting the recording history I needed 24/7 continuous record. With reliable playback. Nest their second generation wire

Anyone switched from Nest/Google cameras to Eufy or vice-versa?

I have moved to Eufy. Three things made me switch. Google updated all of my Nest cameras and doorbell cam to where the footage was artificially lightened. The footage, especially at twilight was not great and there was no way to roll back the updates. The move to the Home app. The Nest app was great
