Neighbor keeps complaining about my setup being too loud even at low volume
I’m using cheap monitor speakers and I compared them against my budget headphone rig. I’ll probably never pull out my headphone amp again. Once you have your room treated it’s not even close. That’s the reason why everybody still buys JBL 305-308s. No contest

Mixing metal: better headphones or studio monitors?
BOTH! Ideally, you should be able to validate your mixes on open-back headphones with a sufficiently flat frequency response for reliability AND on decent studio monitors. If your room isn't acoustically treated, headphones are really useful for choosing and adjusting reverbs, room EQ, plate springs

What monitors are you rocking and do you rate them?
I’ve a pair of JBL 305, and at about $500 AUD I think they were great value. I could definitely do with some stands or a bit of room correction to bring out their best though.

n00b Studio Monitor Question
Excellent. I ended up with a Scarlett Solo and some JBL 305 MkIIs. My office is pretty tiny and didn’t figure I’d need the 308s. Appreciate the advice!

How do I Treat a room i am making
i feel you on the rabbit hole - spent weeks reading about room treatment before i did anything. for a 9x11 space you probably don't need double walling or mass loaded vinyl. start with rock wool panels for first reflection points and corners, then add bass traps later. that combo cuts flutter echo a

Kali LP-6, Kali LP-8 or Adam D3V?
You can get what you want with minimum 5" drivers or with Adam d3v, iLoud Micro, Genelec 8010 paired with a subwoofer. Both solutions will receive a significant upgrade through a sw for room correction. Kali LP- 6, Adam T5V, JBL 305P or Yamaha HS5 are great monitors but they are made to perform at t

Desktop speakers/monitors for 3m x 4m room — speakers 10cm from back wall (budget 500 usd, Argentina)
with only 10cm to the wall, you definitely want front-ported or sealed speakers to avoid that muddy bass. i've been down this road before. the Kali Audio LP-6v2 are front-ported and work great near walls, plus they have dip switches to tune for placement. super neutral too, so they'd work for produc

I’m wondering what studio monitors/speakers everyone has
I personally use the JBL 305P MkII in my studio, they are loud, the sound is very clear, and the bass is strong for their size. Simple to connect to any setup, and they fit well in any studio. I’ve been using them for the past few years and never had any issues, and I honestly haven’t found anything

Is this still true with size when home mixing?
Yes, the core idea still holds true: larger speakers need more distance to “breathe”, especially in nearfield setups like a 24" desk. If you're too close, bigger monitors (7"+) can overwhelm the space and smear the soundstage, especially in untreated rooms. For home mixing at short range, the sweet
