MacBook Air M1 is the best purchase I have ever made
The X1 Carbons and T series feel nice (especially recent ones) but they're not a solid piece of metal so they're always going to have some creak compared to a MacBook. But the hinges are very solid and the keyboard praise is real. There are a lot of other compromises though compared to a MacBook. Wi

Refurbished Laptop for 2023 Recommendations
You can get a refurb MacBook on eBay and it’s honestly a solid option for what you need. I’ve bought one myself from this listing https://ebay.us/Jpwgit and it’s still working fine, so the whole refurb is risky thing is a bit overblown if you stick to reputable sellers with good ratings and returns.

Which one would you choose and why? MacBook Pro 14 vs Thinkpad X1 Carbon
I’ve had most of X1 Carbon models since Gen 6 and although looking sleek they get hot quick in that little body resulting in fans blasting and being annoyance. Also, soldered and non-replaceable parts are a big no-no for me nowadays, especially with those high memory prices - I’ll rather take a lapt

T14 Gen 2 Core i7 (11th Gen) or X1 Carbon i7 (10th gen)?
Go for the T14 Gen 2 honestly. Yeah the X1 is cheaper and lighter but 8th gen memory vs 11th gen with Iris Xe is actually a pretty big jump especially if you're gonna mess around with Linux since newer gen tends to have better driver support out of the box. The RAM difference hurts a bit but you can

P14s Gen 5(intel), IBM R52, X1 Carbon Gen 10
I've been part of the...Cult for a while now. I love using the TrackPoint and I like the way they look, and the fact that they can run almost any OS. I got a p14s gen 5 Intel variant about a year ago. Shortly after I bought a R52, which was dated inside from before IBM no longer owned ThinkPad. It h

Replacing z13 G1 keyboard
Not too different to X1 carbon, you'll have to deal with tens of tiny screws or replace the entire C cover.

MacBook Air M1 is the best purchase I have ever made
Yes, that keyboard was just muuahh. Never got my hands on X1 Carbon (was 2nd contender 4 years ago). Repairability is where I'm concerned and was concerned as well. Though I heard they've made the new Neo relatively repairable?

dream laptop with linux
If you're looking at ThinkPads, the T series is really your best bet for optimal Linux compatibility. There are 16" models available. One thing I really don't like about the X1 Carbons is that you're pretty much stuck with the RAM you get because it's soldered (it's an ultrabook, after all, so thinn

E14 gen 2 bios locked
X1 Carbon Gen 9 / Yoga Gen 6. It's a mess. And if I saw it correctly, Gen 13 again (Aura Edition). X1C Gen 12 is Ok. We do not always need access to the BIOS Chip but in case we need it the epoxy needs to be removed and the risk / reward (at least for us) than does not match.
