i ran into this exact confusion last month. on ps5, most 120hz modes in shooters like cod drop internal res to around 1440p to hit those frames, but the tv still upscales to 4k. you wont notice the difference from couch distance. a good 4k 120hz tv gives you the best of both worlds without swapping

The base PS5 is just upscaling from 1080p or lower I believe. The issue tho is it's also a dynamic "4k" upscale so it's never actually close to 4k. For me tho I'm playing on an LG C3 120hz OLED on PC at 4k ultra settings at 120fps and it's ridiculously sharp. So it's definitely not close to 4k on co
