Studio monitors sound thin compared to headphones
Original ones, yes. Mark II models, stay away from. I used to be the Mackie service agent for the state and the modern stuff is utter garbage, top to bottom. Stay away from KRK Rockit models too as they all succumb to failure due to corrosive glue, and poor thermal management. Yamaha HS7/HS8, Mackie

home recording
Lots of home recording here. Constantly recording projects and dance scores and voice work in my home studio. *UPDATE* KEF Demo Disappointment
said all I wanted to say... They like show room presenting speakers and that is totally valid... no need to do all the extra stuff. Mackie has had some decent to great monitors like the MR624, MR824, HR824 MK2s. I have zero experience with the Mackies he has listed though

Editors, What kind of speakers are you using to mix audio with.
I still use mackie hr824’s (mk 1’s) with everything set flat. I’ve used them for years and when I have to mix in house, even for broadcast, I’ve never had a mix kicked back. You can find them used in your price range.

Is it safe to leave audio equipment on 24/7?
My Mackie Monitors HR824 have been powered on virtually nonstop since 1997. No issues. They have a sleep mode, but I don't use it.

Anyone else tired of budget monitors self-destructing due to planned obsolescence?
Tannoy PBM 6.5 and C-8 from the early 90's. Still going strong and flawless. The modern production of entry level monitor is pure crap made in PRC. Stay away from these. Mackie HR824 were rock solid, also any Tannoy system 600 or 800 with coaxial tweeter is a good option. JBL 42xx and 43xx are of co
