Hmmm have you looked at the osprey 26+6? It’s a backpack but does have the side handle on it and opens up to one large section which is what you want by the sound of it. Also has structure.

yes. ex: an osprey 26+6 (rectangular prism) will hold more than a normal cheap droopy backpack

I am trying out the Osprey 26+6 right now ( I just started traveling) it feels more comfortable than my Cotopaxi 28. It's so much lighter and I don't miss the hip belt. That may change but for now it's a good option for me.

Non centered side handle is an odd choice in my view. The osprey 26+6 implemented it ok to me
