How do you handle lots of weight on an achy back with a backpack?

This is all about overhead sized bags. Load transfer and under seat bags aren’t happening. Reduce the weight as much as possible! Get a pack with a load transferring harness that comes in various torso lengths or adjustable torso length for a proper fit. That will put 80% of the weight on your hips.

Osprey Farpoint Owners - what do YOU use these loops for?

10/9/25 edit - I used this on our two week multi location trip and it worked very well! The clips to hold the 15l daypack on the front worked really well to balance the load on my shoulders and free up my hands to help family with their bags up and down stairs and on and off the train. My son got on

Packing cubes the move for a backpack?

The “55L Osprey” is actually a 40L Osprey Farpoint with an attachable 15L Osprey Daylight daypack. That’s good news because you’ll be able to travel carryon only. What is REALLY worth time investing in is travelling as light as possible. Get the Farpoint down to max 10KG (the most common carryon wei

Traveling without a suitcase for the first time, any advice?

I travel with an osprey farpoint 55L. Fairview is the same thing but fits traditional female frames a little better. It is a two-backpack setup that will work as a carryon + personal item. It has a hip strap so you can fill it pretty tight with heavy stuff and not wreck your shoulders. Traveling lig

Seasonal Worker abroad for six months in France: Brittany coastal region

Looks perfectly possible to me. The Osprey Farpoint will work for overhead carryon and help you handle the weight. Definitely pile up your packing list items in a box and weigh it. If the box is roughly 22”x14”x9” you can get a good idea of packed volume at the same time. Do you need a puffy? I woul

Struggling to Choose the Right Backpack for Travel + Overnight Hiking

The Osprey FarPoint / FairView (womens) 40L packs seem a good choice for travel - they fit Delta's "Carry-on" sizing (would want to check other airlines...), and have a built-in (stowable) cover for the harness / hip belt in case they get gate checked. We found them comfortable to carry across airpo

Yet another "what bag should I buy," 35L edition

As a shorter/petite lady, I ended up having to compromise on the suitcase-style opened and ended up with a traditional top loader. So many people love the Allpa 35 but it did not work for me. I loved packing it but as soon as I had to put it on fully packed, I hated it. It didn't work for my shorter

Anything better or similar to the Cotopaxi travel pack?

I’ve tired a few brands of bags from Cotopaxi, peak designs, north face, tortuga and tomtoc. I will say for the price, the tomtoc t66 liteway in 40l and 28l are my second favourite behind Osprey Farpoint. If tomtoc had stowable straps, load lifters and waist belt it would be even closer. Every trave
