Back ventilation for mid-size (30L - 40L) packs?

Love my Osprey Stratos 34. Even my Osprey Syncro 20 has a trampoline back. The usual ridged foam approach is better than nothing but I don't think it works very well. There's no airflow to take your sweat away. Yes, the wire required for a trampoline back to work makes a stiffer, heavier backpack. I

Is this pack overkill?

Laughs in 34 or 42 L. Enjoy the pack. It's fine. It's light, right? A marginal amount of extra bulk isn't that big a deal. Did you load all the stuff you mentioned for the picture? Granted, everyone lies a bit about backpack volume but I think somewhere in the 20's is perfect for day hiking. If it's

Osprey Hikelite 30 vs Osprey Tempest (talon) Velocity 30 vs Osprey Tempest (talon) 33 vs Gregory packs

I have an Osprey Stratos 34. Loved having a more serious frame for the hut trip I got it for. From your list, that would make my pick the Hikelite. You can probably get an accessory pocket to clip on for your phone. I have something like that for a water bottle.

Osprey Sirrus 34 vs. Osprey Tempest 33

I just bought an Osprey stratos 34 (the men's version of the Sirius) for my next camino. I walked my last one in a Decathlon mh550 38l. The suspension on the Sirius/stratos is phenomenal. I was trying packs on today and had a stratos on with a 5kg dummy load in it....and tried to put on another pack

Keep 65L pack for day hikes or switch to smaller pack?

Keep the 65 L pack unless you can make back your entire purchase cost. 20 miles is a hell of a day hike! What have you done so far? Day hiking packs don't necessarily need to be expensive though I have to confess somewhat expensive tastes here - love my Osprey Stratos 34. That said, it's still overk

Which backpack suits my needs best?

The Farpoint isn't a trekking pack. The Terra actually looks really weird to me. TNF mostly doesn't do outdoors packs but they're getting back into it but this one doesn't have the usual outdoors pocketing - like no side pockets - and it's suspiciously inexpensive. I couldn't tell if it has a real f

osprey stratos?

I bought the Stratos 34 from REI but returned it before I ever used it. I didn’t realize there is a Stratos 34 and 36 and I had them confused. I traded it for a 36 which I like more because it is top load. It just suits my packing better and I don’t trust that zipper to hold stuff inPretty much the

Which bag to choose: Osprey Talon 33 vs Stratos 36

I can't remember if the Talon 33 has an aluminum frame. The Stratos does and I love how well it wears. I also really like the ventilation from the trampoline back. So that's my vote between the two. Regarding size, it's kind of a funny in-between. It's definitely bigger than you need for day hiking
