Q Acoustics is a British audio speaker design company, a little pricy, but well reviewed. I really like their M20 USB/bluetooth speakers, which are equally adept at being your living room TV speakers as they are at giving your PC some proper hifi audio.

You definitely can't get futureproof powered speakers for 250 new. That said, you can get plenty of great sound for that budget.
