Stupid question: is a SSD heatsink mandatory or unneeded?

Not needed. Just reuse the black heat shielding sticker that comes with the stock SSD and put it on your new one when swapping them over. I’ve had a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro in my old Ally X, and temps were perfectly fine. And now I have a 4TB 990 Evo Plus in my current Xbox Ally X and temps are fine the

SSD prices as of late.

I went with Samsung 990 pro 4TB as their heat sink is much better at handling heat.

Best 2TB SSD upgrade?

i went through this last month with my M4. for reliability i'd look at the Samsung 990 Pro or WD Black SN850X. both have solid controllers and good heat management. some of the cheaper drives do fail over time especially with constant read writes. the 990 Pro has been super stable for me and works f

Motherboard Selection Recommendation for 9950x3D

EDIT : THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT ! I've literally considered everything the comments mentioned. I've deep dived and someone also suggested Gigabyte Aorus Pro x3D (Elite x3D is more popular in EU, unfortunately not in my country) so I went along with it. Currently very happy by it (Only thing is

Good 2tb SSD drives for $400 or under ?

for the 2025 g14 you want a single-sided ssd to avoid heat issues. at $400 you've got great options. Samsung 990 Pro 2TB runs around $280-320, hits 7450MB/s, and the magician software helps with thermal monitoring. WD Black SN850X 2TB is similar performance around $260-300. if you want to save a bit

Will Samsung 990 pro with heatsink get fit in my acer nitro 5 AN515-45-R21A ( RTX 3060 with Ryzen 5 5600h)

i've got the same model - the heatsink version won't fit, the clearance is too tight. grab the samsung 990 pro without heatsink instead. the laptop's own thermal pad will contact the drive. i'm running a 2tb in mine and temps stay under 65c during gaming. just make sure to clone your old drive first

thermal pad on ssd ?

I installed the samsung 990 pro 4tb, in the second slot. I use it primarily to store games on, and there has been no issues with it getting hot. I did not put a thermal pad on it.

i feel you on this one - same thing happened to my samsung 970 evo after three years. that red highlight usually means the bios sees the drive but can't boot from it. first thing - grab a usb stick and make a bootable hirens bootcd pe on another pc to test the ssd health. samsung magician software c
