If you could find a Sony Reader PRS-300 from way back in the day with a functional battery (Sony doesn't make that particular battery anymore and it's hit or miss if they can still hold a charge now), I've always said it would be perfect for a kid because it's JUST book, no wifi/internet or games or

I'd suggest pocketbook. Either a verse pro or the era for a larger display option. The system is open and they also have some kindle-like functionality like send books via mail or cloud. It also is very easy to install koreader on it, which is beyond awesome of you're into tweaking your reading soft

My Sony PRS-300 finally died thanks to the help of a toddler... Looking for a good replacement, battery life and expandable storage are the most important factors to me.
4GB would be great, though I definitely wouldn't be opposed to more. Good to know! The only downside to the PRS-300 (for my wants) was no expandable storage. Still held plenty of epubs, but I would love to put more on it. Though I did look at Sony's e-readers that came after the PRS-300. The PRS-505
