Modern Speakers with a vintage sound?
KLH Model Five or Wharfedale Linton Heritage most likely the best around for what you're asking for.

My current setup with chifi assist
Nothing too special but i love the aesthetic and the sound for my budget. Running my Wharfedale Linton Anniversaries with a Boyuurange MT-34MK2 with Tung-sol tubes. Wharfedales on custom made wooden floor stands purchased on Etsy (shoutout to GoldCreekStudios). Use the Cambridge AXR100 to control su

Wharfedale build quality
I have walnut Linton 85 and UK-built Harbeths that retail for 3x as much and actually prefer the veneers on the made-in-China Wharfedales.

Uber Linton?
Many new series of speakers do. But Wharfedale was doing a retro revival of its early era speakers with the Linton. They also revived the Dovedale from the 1960s, as the retro equivalent of a floorstanding speaker - massive box still with three drivers, but gigantic woofer. Four driver tower speaker

walnut SHL5+XD, they are so grey-ish compared to the caramel goodness of the walnut Lintons. obvs subjective and I'm not disparaging Harbeth, just giving props to Wharfedale here

Wharfedale Linton vs Super Linton vs KLH Model Five
I just updated my speakers to a set of Wharfedale Super Lintons. I use a similar amplifier the Yamaha A-S1100 and the super Lintons are really great. I use a Rel T/X9 SE sub and plan to get a second one but overall the Super Lintons have been a really great upgrade. The Super Lintons not only sound

Most cheapest best possible setup for listening to jazz?
Wharfedale Linton's play jazz fantastically. They also so much look the part. Not sure what your amp situation looks like but they did great with a Cambridge AXR85. And sound absolutely amazing with a Marantz 40n. They aren't fussy but definitely level up with better amplification.

Turns out my flatmate who just moved in is also an audiophile
I just replaced my Paradigm Premier 800Fs for a set of Wharfedale Super Lintons. They are solid speakers that have really great performance for the price. I am curious why you don’t use the grills? Is it just for aesthetics as I know some folks prefer not to use them. Most manufacturers generally re
