Yamaha HS8 with 8 years of use or a newer used KRK Rokit 7? I’m unsure which one to choose.

How new is newer? FWIW I’ve never had trouble finding service/repairs for a Yamaha HS8. Def better off w a broken HS8 than a broken Rokit 7

Anyone else tired of budget monitors self-destructing due to planned obsolescence?

Yamaha HS8 was the answer. Mine have been working flawlessly

Studio monitors sound thin compared to headphones

Original ones, yes. Mark II models, stay away from. I used to be the Mackie service agent for the state and the modern stuff is utter garbage, top to bottom. Stay away from KRK Rockit models too as they all succumb to failure due to corrosive glue, and poor thermal management. Yamaha HS7/HS8, Mackie

Dependendo do

Listening at home 🔊

Look at monitors, second hand if needed. The Yamaha HS8's mentioned are great. I've got Adam A7x's and they are crazy good. They're around 450 on ebay. It's doubtful anyone will have blown them- they go incredibly loud and because they're pretty high end- and for music production rather than parties

Upgrading to a more serious pair of monitors

The Yamahas are pretty good for what they are. I'm personally using Yamaha HS8 in a well treated room and will probably never upgrade. Except maybe to those Neumanns...

DJ Speaker Recommendations (reposted was in wrong sub)

I don’t know the Adam speakers myself. The Yamahas are still great. I’d say 20 people in a small room can rock out pretty hard to those speakers. If you can afford the subwoofer that goes with that system, I would recommend getting it. It just hits those lower frequencies. It’ll really make the room

Studio Monitor Recommendations

I have multiple pairs of monitors up and down the size and price range. The HS8 is fine for the price; however, that's a relatively small room for such powerful monitors. I know I have them in a room of similar dimensions. Also, I want to point out I have never heard stock HS8. I bought these some y

Best way to spend money as a beginner house and techno DJ/producer?

I’ve heard good things about ADAM audio but I’m a tried and true Yamaha HS8 fan myself. I’ve had mine for 13 years and they still sound great. They aren’t cheap though. $650/pair or so.
