New 3d printers are so much easier to use. I was in the same boat as you, but after talking to some people in the hobby and my son wanting one for christmas, we bit on an anycubic kobra 3 v2, and its been absolutely amazing.

The place I consult for uses Creo. Edit: to clarify, I modeled it on-site using Creo, exported as a STEP rather than STL to avoid tesselation related artifacts, imported into Anycubic Slicer Next, defaults for generic PLA and hit go. The Kobra S1 is a nice machine for its price.
