budget of 900 dollars
If by brand new you mean the latest, then just get the Air, because the Pro is over $1k, way over your budget. An iPad Air is still a great experience to write with. That iPad should last you 4 to 7 years because of the overkill laptop level M-chip. Anything M2 and above should last you 5 years or m

I am buying my second iPad?
Honestly for your use case, I’d probably go with the iPad Air M4 and spend the saved money on storage/accessories instead. Suggest me an iPad ONLY for notes related multitasking. I dont want to overspend.
The Apple refurb store currently has two 5th Gen M1 iPad Air models, 10.9”, 256GB, WiFi + Cellular for $489 if you don’t mind pink or purple. BUT - that refurb price is terribly close to a new M4 iPad Air, 11”, WiFi only, 128 GB for $549 if you make an EDU purchase as a student.
