Just Apple Things

This is 100% ON PURPOSE. And so is putting the Mac Mini power button on the BOTTOM of the thing. There is someone at Apple that WANTS people to burn. Like the mouse is amazing, scrolling is amazing, gestures are amazing, but you can't even hold it properly because it's so fucking.. idk.. what's the

These Macs Can't Run the Studio Display XDR at 120Hz

Of course it just so happens that M4 is omitted from both lists… which is the Mac I have (M4 Mac Mini)

We are Switching to Linux… For a Whole MONTH

Related story: his first Linux challenge is exactly why, when I bought a Steam Deck OLED (it's so fucking good wow), I told myself that was Linux enough for me, especially because [Fortune 250 company I work for] paid for my Windows laptop anyway on a lease-to-own. Around January last year, I bought

Several Mac mini and Mac Studio configs are now completely out of stock at Apple

These shortages convinced me to sell my Mac Mini m4 and buy a Macbook Air M5. Might as well watch some LLM bro pay more than I paid for my Mac.

safari vs the rest: is it actually the best browser for mac? (honest pros & cons)

I find safari on my m4 Mac mini renders pages noticeably slower than chromium and even Firefox for me

Switched from Windows to Mac — surprised by window lag / Chrome stutter. Am I expecting too much?

You're running 3 external monitors, probably all 4K at 180 Hz, on a Mac Mini with a regular M4 chip. This isn't a Mini with an M4 Pro or a Mac Studio with an M4 Max or M3 Ultra.

Is it realistic to use a Mac mini as a “portable” (carrying in a backpack + daily plugging/unplugging)?

I mean that many plug/unplug actions is less than ideal, but I can't say if it will actively harm the mini. If it's shut down each time I don't think there would be any risk involved. One idea would may be to never actually unplug the power cable from the mini (maybe get a very short one), and then

Which Mac app have you recently stopped using, and why?

istat menus. the fan control on mac mini m4 does not seem to be working. switched to stats. stats isn't perfect but it lets me get to manual fan control quicker.

Low-Cost MacBook Expected on March 4 in These Colors

On one hand, yes. On the other hand, apparently rumours say these will be A chips not M chips, and the M4 Mac Mini starts at 16gb ram where the budget laptops will probably be 8gb, so there seem to be tradeoffs there to make the build cheaper. Pricing at over $599 would be a bad move IMO

Oh that’s too bad. You should have bought a bigger SSD

Weird because I have a T7 I use for music production and I’ve been getting slow disk/overload errors in logic on an M4 Pro Mac mini with 24GB ram. That machine is more than capable of what I’m throwing at it and I’ve had 2015 Intel MacBooks and M1 MacBooks work larger projects off the same drive fin
