I am starting to think going with Chromebooks for my teaching staff was not the best move
I agree. We gave them to 3 teachers who are used to using a M2 MacBook Air and they saw almost no difference either.

Wait is it really? Overnight on Saturday my cpu now is just all over the place with no change on a MacBook Air ‘25 M4 chip. Yet I have zero audio degradation, my cpu in task manager or activity manager will show minimal usage, but then it shows either on my Mac or even my PC these ridiculous numbers

Unless you need more storage, you won't notice a difference between the M5 MacBook air and M4 just like you wouldn't notice the M4 iPad air vs the M3 year over year.
