Here's How Much Faster MacBook Air Gets With M5 Chip vs. M4 Chip
It’s amazing how far Apple has moved me down the chip line. I started using Macs on a Power Mac G5 dual 1.8Ghz in 2004. At the time? That was just sort of expected if you were serious about photo or video. That G5 became a Core2Duo 24” iMac around 2008, which led to a 27” i7 iMac around 2013 which b

Tech bros are lying to you about the MacBook Neo
You definitely could use it for all of the basics of graphic design. As an Art Director, till last year I was using my work supplied Intel MacBook Pro that was inferior to a Neo in all regards other than display accuracy. The computers we have these days fly through most Adobe apps compared with wha

On the fence about configuration
What do you intend to do with this computer? If it's general knowledge worker work, then the standard M4 is certainly capable and would continue to be so for the next 5 years at least. I have a M1 Pro MacBook Pro from 2021 with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage that is sufficient for most of what I d

When would you choose more RAM over more cores and vice versa?
That is simply untrue. My entire dev team uses 16GB M1 Pro MacBook Pros. They can more than adequately handle anything that gets thrown at them. It’s a very heavy build (a Java project that takes ~12 minutes to compile) and we all have Docker and a bunch of other things running. 16GB is more than en

Is 16 GB of RAM enough?
16gb is enough on a MacBook but not really windows. I’d recommend looking on BackMarket and buying the best spec’d machine in your budget. An older MacBook Pro would be the best, if you don’t mind Apple. Even with a base M1 Pro, you can do nearly everything especially if you optimize with proxies.

When you say how many tokens you are getting... could you specify prompt eval vs eval?
For MacBook M1 Pro unified memory, give Qwen3.6-35B-A3B a try, Q2 or Q3 quants since you have 32GB ram. It should fare better TG speeds (prompt eval). Qwen3.6-27B-MTP at Q2 will still be rough, due to M1 Pro's memory bandwidth at 204 GB/s.

Gave my T440 a second life
Yeah, I restored this laptop for my younger sister. I’m thinking about installing Mint on it for everyday use. As for Omarchy, I agree, but I don’t really feel any negative emotions about it. Seems like other people have some issues with it for some reason. I have a 16-inch MacBook M1 Pro, and it’s

New Neo or older Macbook (M series)
I kinda hate the 13" Macbook Pro touchbar models (The 14" and 16" models are great) but it's awfully wild people are recommending the Neo over an objectively superior machine to the Neo; they are too caught into the forced obsolescence trap. Clearly 16GB is superior to a Neo; that's one of the bigge

Should I get the Neo or Air?
With the Memorial Day sales going I wouldn't hesitate at all for the Air you can buy a new M5 Air with 512GB instead of 256GB at that point as it's only $900 on Amazon right now https://www.amazon.com/Apple-2026-MacBook-13-inch-Laptop/dp/B0GR1493ZV or you can get it from Best Buy open-box in "fair"

Questions about Macbook Neo & Chromium browser.
the m1 models may look better on paper but are almost out of their software support window. i tend to buy used hardware too, but a neo will undoubtedly outlive a 6 year old machine. You understand this only applies to Intel Machines not M-Series chips as MacOS Sequoia and Tahoe are gearing up full s
