How the T2 Security Chip Makes MacBook Repairs Impossible: Only Replaceable Parts Are Fans, Hinges, Screws, Housing, and Some Display Glass (Without Sensors). Everything Else—Logic Board, SSD, Touch ID, Battery, Trackpad, Keyboard, Ports, and More—Is Locked to T2. Read the pinned comment for details

Don’t forget the fact that they cut costs with the T2 chip, putting 1gb T2s in <=512GB devices and 2gb full T2s in 1TB and up. That made upgrading ssd storage in these devices impossible, especially low tier models. Considering that the NANDs fail so frequently this is an asshole move as well A lot ...

MacBook Pro: Apple’s most awkward laptop is the first to show off Apple M5 | Ars Technica

I don’t think M5 MacBook Pro is awkward. For someone who doesn’t need M pro power it’s great - comes with everything else pro gives - ports, screen and bigger battery which in combination with less power hungry SoC give outstanding battery life.

Apple unleashes M5, the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon

Base config on the M5 MacBook Pro is still 16GB RAM. With all the stuff running in the background, they should have bumped base RAM up to at least 24GB. My M1 Pro with 16GB needs to use swap to handle stuff. But it will probably be another 10 years before Apple increases base RAM across the lineup.

Vision Pro M5 review: It’s time for Apple to make some tough choices

The Meta offerings don't cost the price of: MacBook Air M4 (£999). iPhone 17 Pro (£1099). Air pods Pro 3 (£219). Apple TV 4K with ethernet (£169). Meta Quest 3 (£469)... And still have £250 spare to add on whatever upgrades you want to any of those. Or even just get a 50"+ 4K TV with it Heck, ditch ...

OLED MacBook Pro With Thinner Design on Track for 2026 Launch

I’ll take the current MacBook body with an OLED screen and FaceID. Just upgrade to a more efficient M5 chip which will increase efficiency and thus battery life beyond 24 hours. Then just keep everything else the same! That’s it, laptops are completed. Won’t need to buy another one for 10+ years. (I...

Apple announces 14" MacBook Pro powered by M5

In the "explore the family of chips," kind of ridiculous to put comparisons to "13-inch MacBook Pro with Intel Core i7 (baseline)" for the M4 Pro and M4 Max. Especially when all the M5 comparisons are to the M1, which makes way more sense as a comparison

A MacBook "without any compromises": Apple's Doug Brooks says performance and battery life dominance will continue as M5 rumors emerge

I got a maxed out (apart from storage) 16" M1 Max (64GB / 2TB) when it came out. I feel my machine already has very few compromises.. My previous Intel i9 MacBook Pro couldn't drive one external display without thermally throttling to the point it was useless. This machine can drive my 2 x 5k Ultraf...

Can we just admit 256Gb of storage is basically a "hidden" fee for real storage

Yeah, it is. The MacBook Pro starts at 512. I don’t think they need to start with one terabyte though I would love if they did, but you aren’t getting a $999 laptop with one terabyte of storage 16 GB of RAM and M5 next year. They would be offering a much better deal than anything on the windows fron...

Linus tests the M5 MacBook Pro in low-power mode in the latest ShortCircuit video

Mac Address was perfect except for the simple fact that an M5 MacBook video would have been uploaded in May 2026. The production and writing of that channel where absolutely top notch but the release schedule for a video about an Apple product was usually months and months too late. I still watched ...

Apple not highlighting Final Cut Pro in new MacBook Pro announcement - instead displaying Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve

Here's a logical reason - it's not impressive for a new MacBook Pro to be able to run Final Cut Pro well. I have a five year old MacBook Pro that only struggles with a handful of niche features on Final Cut Pro, and that may have more to do with the 16 GB RAM size than the M1 Pro chip. Premiere Pro ...
