What's with Mac people suddenly going "8gb of ram is plenty" since the Neo came out?

It's just the price and segment. 8GB on a MacBook Pro (which, in 2024, had a starting price of $1,599 despite having only 8GB of RAM) is horrible, and was never OK. 8GB on a MacBook Neo (which, in 2026 has a starting price of just $599) is perfectly fine. 24GB should be the minimum in 2026 (for a pr

Why are Intel Macs still so insanely expensive??

The fact that they still natively support Linux and Windows, as well as eGPU (or internal for the Mac Pro) while being Macs still is what props them up still. Even older MacBook pros still command a decent margin because of their greater memory and storage configs over comparable used Apple Silicon

Here's How Much Faster MacBook Air Gets With M5 Chip vs. M4 Chip

It’s amazing how far Apple has moved me down the chip line. I started using Macs on a Power Mac G5 dual 1.8Ghz in 2004. At the time? That was just sort of expected if you were serious about photo or video. That G5 became a Core2Duo 24” iMac around 2008, which led to a 27” i7 iMac around 2013 which b

Apple Prepares to Kick Off 2026 With the iPhone 17e, New iPads and Macs

Archive link: https://archive.ph/mjvPl […] Apple also has several Macs coming shortly, including new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and the MacBook Air with an M5 processor. Upgraded Mac Studio desktops are coming too and shouldn’t arrive too long after the spring Mac refresh. And there’s the long

Apple unleashes M5, the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon

Base config on the M5 MacBook Pro is still 16GB RAM. With all the stuff running in the background, they should have bumped base RAM up to at least 24GB. My M1 Pro with 16GB needs to use swap to handle stuff. But it will probably be another 10 years before Apple increases base RAM across the lineup.

MacBook Neo costs more in Portugal due to copyright levy for piracy compensation taxes — storage costs extra in multiple countries, thanks to draconian laws that pre-punish buyers

American people will lose their shit over a $2 fee while watching people die because they can't pay their medical bills. Apple has a long history of adding 10 to 15% cost on every product they sell in Europe. At some point, the $1999 Surface would cost €1849 in France (VAT included), while the $1999

Macbook Neo Changed My Life

Apple really did it with the MacBook neo didn’t they? I don’t need one cuz I have an M4 pro MacBook Pro. But the Neo seems awesome from what I’ve seen about it. Seeing a lot of posts like this one. I’m curious to see what the numbers on Neo sales are. And comparing sales of other apple devices to se

Anyone have both a ThinkPad and MacBook ?

Trying to be objective, the MacBook Pros like the 14 and 16-inch ones with the Pro and Max processors are really solid machines. The screens are incredibly good to begin with and there are no “low-end” options that have 45% NTSC color gamut. This, I think is the worst part about buying used ThinkPad

Get A Cheaper MacBook in 2026 - Dave2D

For some reason Quinn can't quiet accept that the MacBook Air M4 / M5 is enough for most people. The MacBook Pro is now best suited for those with heavy sustained workflows in 3D and graphics. Both Tom (Byte Review) and Nicholas (Space Design Warehouse) have been raising this point since the M4 laun
