I have an Asus RoG Strix G16 laptop with 32GB and an RTX 5070 GPU with 8 GB of VRAM. It is more than adequate and will be more portable than a desktop, if that is a consideration.

Best laptops for engineering majors? (Ps Do I really need a laptop that can run cad during my general ed?)
honestly the CAD question depends on your school but a lot of ME programs throw it at you earlier than you'd expect, especially if you join any clubs or design teams on the MacBook - for general ed fine but SolidWorks through Parallels is not reliable enough to depend on for actual coursework. buyin

BestBuy 2026 G14 5070Ti 16GB RAM
Check ROG STRIX g16, Intel version...bigger brother slightly beefier build but way better upgradeability with open slot for 2nd SSD and ram not soldered. Lower price if don't care for the slim size.

Dell Pro Max or a gaming equivalent?
I’d do it. Many gaming laptops skimp out on things like build quality, display quality, and first-party support. This is where high-end ultrabooks shine, even with the same specs. However, if you’re going to be gaming or using the GPU a lot, be sure to look at the max TGP of that GPU. Laptop makers
