i found a used asus rt ac68u and damn it's a sweet deal. i get a flash storage of 256mb to experiment with openwrt packages... The problem is though that it has broadcom drivers, so no wifi, so i had to use a dumb ap. seeing a lot of people use openwrt is so wholesome!

TL;DR: Since you stated you need Adaptive QoS, then you should probably leave the RT-AC68U as the router, add the RT-AX55 as a mesh node and call it a day. What's your opinion on using two older ASUS routers with AiMesh? Getting EBOX in a few weeks and wondering if AiMesh using a RT-AC86U and RT-AC68U will get the job done, or is simply outdated.
