Actually midnight is protein leather so technically it is worse than stock because you get similar material with less ear space and more padding impacting sound quality/clarity. Yeah I was also eyeing Maxwells when I was first doing research but Audeze products are waaay too expensive here. Maxwell 2 is still not available, and 1 costs over $470 on biggest discount, with regular price being $1160.

I had a very similar experience. I bought the Maxwell 2 and the hiss was extremely noticeable, honestly unbearable for daily use. I ended up returning them and getting the original Maxwell instead, and the first thing I noticed was that the Maxwell 1 also has a tiny bit of hiss, but it is much lower

Can’t comment on the Maxwell 2’s, but I have the Maxwell 1’s and SP2’s. I’m really liking the SP2’s. The Maxwell’s edge them out in overall SQ, but the SP2’s are no slouch, and EQ very well. I’m enjoying them for music and gaming, and will likely sell my Maxwells. I personally have no major issues w
