OP: Absolutely go the separate machine and grinder route , if you’re going for the Breville and not ninja. You’ll get a much much better grinder if you buy a bambino and let’s say a Baratza encore ESP than you would if you get the barista express. Also, all in one machines are great when all element

I had an older Barista express and found the grinder mediocre, inconsistent and ultimately unreliable as it eventually died and we got a Baratza Sette grinder as a replacement before then replacing the Breville. The newer ones may be better - this was over 10 years ago. I then moved to a Dual Boiler
