Photos from a Tourist

Canon EOS M50 II with the default kit lens for this trip. It's an entry level mirrorless camera. It's lens mount type is a bit outdated - so I wouldn't encourage anyone to invest much into that model. A few of the photos were from my Pixel 7 as well.

Using Lumix to record stage performance—visual pulsing and loses focus

Ah, good to know! Given neither of these is a fantastic option, I feel like I'm stuck using the Canon EOS M50 or buying a new camera. Was really hoping to make the Lumix work for this!

Canon EOS M50?

Don't get M50. The EOS M line is discontinued. Instead get a used Canon R50 and a used 18-45mm kit lens, or a used Sony A6100 and a used 16-50mm kit lens from MPB.

I want to learn photography, what camera(s) should I get?

I’m leaning towards crop sensor and mirrorless cameras because they seem lightweight and versatile, and I can spend about $800 (looking at refurbished as well). Agreed, especially for your budget. I’ve heard crop sensors are more durable Not inherently. But you're only looking at crop sensors anyway
