In terms of text and icon quality, I'd describe 1440p as like a 5/10 and 4K as an 8/10 when you use the 1440p scale. Your reason to get 1440p here would be the much higher refresh rate. However, you can find 120Hz 4K monitors for pretty cheap, like the Dell S2725QS, if you live in the US. I'd person

Just bought a Dell S2725QS for myself because I have a dock already. Very happy with the color set to sRGB native MacOS scaling set to 1440. These are IPS, 4k, 120hz. They’re $225 for Cyber Monday right now. If you’re wanting to do dual monitors I’d recommend getting a real thunderbolt dock to reall

For a good budget option, I have a Dell S2725QS that I love. Stupid sharp, great colors when calibrated with my spider x, and still fast enough to reasonably game on. I just bought this one, its great for office work and not spending lots of money. At 3 foot distance I don't notice difference in resolution between my macbook display. I recommend better display to unlock HiDPi resolution (retina basically). So you get sharp images but larger fonts. I run it at 169
