I have both devices (among others). I like them both and still play on the xbox ally x more than i thought would. The win 5 at 17w will match or exceed the xax performance at 17w with the same settings, but the difference is so small that you probably wouldnt notice it. At low tdps say 7w for indies

You can search Handheld Companion Patreon, it should be the first link, the github one doesn't support Win5. And yes you can assign shortcut to back buttons, I assigned HC menu to L4 and keyboard to R4, I didn't like the original on screen keyboard that came with GPD Win5.

Received my Win5 today. Loaded up bazzite immediately. Same issue with disconnecting WiFi. Tried the fix of disabling power management. That seems to have extended the amount of time I can stay connected from under 5 minutes to around 10-15 minutes, but I still get disconnected. Only solution is to
