Did I get a good deal for this 2nd-hand X1 Carbon Gen-8?
For $170 that's an amazing deal! Althought, X1C gen 8 only uses 10th gen processors. The Carbon Gen 7 has 8th and 10th gen processors. In fact, according to the PSREF, the i7-8650U is on the X1 Carbon Gen 6, from 2018. Even though, that's a great deal because it has the 16GB version and the performa

What's a good budget laptop for Linux (for my son)?
I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 on eBay and it has been great. You can get a Gen 6 to Gen 8 for under $300. I personally use LM 22.3 Cinnamon but I have tried an ungodly amount of distros using a usb drive and they all worked great!

Upvote this post if your install of Ubuntu 26.04 went technically well
I installed it on a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 and it’s snappy as all get out. It is giving me better performance than the last version. Especially when it comes to updates via the Pro account.
