Refurbished T-series for university student
For portability, wouldn’t you want a smaller, lighter machine? (you may want to look at X13/T14s/X1 Carbon instead - these should have the same footprint as your HP..)

Is the Thinkpad X1 Carbon better than Macbook Air/Pro?
Performance wise, Apple Silicon absolutely thrashes anything in the x86 world. Soldiered storage may be the biggest issue for MBA, but i'm not totally convinced that the x1 is upgradeable enough to actually bust out a win there. I know my early first gen carbon didn't support tradidtional m2 form fa

Basic question about your opinion
I have one that covers a giant hole in the paint on my x1 carbon. Great laptop, terrible finish, comes off if you look at it.

Hot take: Lenovo should simplify the Thinkpad line
No point. The X1 Carbons are already under 1kg. It's in the 900g range, same as the X1 Nano. The X13 also serves as a cheaper X1 Nano replacement right now, with some models now being under 1kg.
