P14s Gen 5(intel), IBM R52, X1 Carbon Gen 10

I've been part of the...Cult for a while now. I love using the TrackPoint and I like the way they look, and the fact that they can run almost any OS. I got a p14s gen 5 Intel variant about a year ago. Shortly after I bought a R52, which was dated inside from before IBM no longer owned ThinkPad. It h...

X1 Carbon G9 I7 or X1E Gen 2 I7

I think the X1E is a solid choice. More keyboard travel. The CPU is more powerful than the X1C9's, the dGPU is nice if you have use for it and WON'T shorten battery life if you don't use it. It'll accept USB-C charging from chargers offering at least 60/65W up to the (then) USB-C maximum of 100W. No...

Can't decide between X1E-78 and X1E-80 laptop for software development

I am using a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7X with the X1E-78 SKU, and it has better performance than most laptops with the X1E-80 SKU. I am a computer science student and have been using it for one month now. If you want to use it for software development, I recommend using Linux through WSL you can't do a dual...

What mods are available for the T480?

Apparenty the touchpad from the ThinkPad X1 Extreme is highly-regarded and fits. That's a cursory search and will have to look more into it but it's a start! Seems to be available on Amazon and AliExpress from what I've seen. Probably can be sourced elsewhere as well.

USB C doesn't charge anymore

It shouldn't have worked in the first place: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X1_Extreme_2nd_Gen/ThinkPad_X1_Extreme_2nd_Gen_Spec.pdf Though if it did work previously and now doesn't, it's probably the firmware bug. If it's the firmware bug try and update the firmware befor...

looking to might move on from apple, which is the best bang for your buck for the basic activity?

I would recommend always buy a buisness class laptop for any brand. (if you want a good gpu for gaming then well you're not in luck). Reason:The lappy companies sign contracts of 2-3 years to companies for supply of laptops, if the laptops aren't good, the laptop companies won't get contract in the ...

You are having almost exactly the same experience as me, only I was coming from a frustrated Linux experience on a ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen3, which was supposed to be the best Linux experience (Or I used to think that...) Oh boy was I wrong... I cannot be happier with this laptop... I am using Kubunt...

Unless a big company takes over like what google did with android, linux will never be a proper windows replacement

I mean to a certain extent it is really a skill issue. The whole thing is made by volunteers and there are sharp edges expected. I have been using Linux for over 20 years and I still have to Google how to troubleshoot certain things. On bog standard hardware (i.e. Thinkpads) with mainstream distros ...
