2026 Year of Steam OS on Mini PCs
I've already been running SteamOS (Valve's own image) on my Minisforum UM773 Lite. Works like a dream, even detected the 4TB SATA SSD and uses it for game storage without a single issue.

Let’s talk real minipc value—this thing isn’t a gaming beast, and that’s okay.
Light gaming? My mini (Minisforum UM773 Lite) can play the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth games without a hitch once I dialed my settings in. Though it does help that I upgraded it to 64GB of RAM which allows the BIOS to allocate 16GB to the graphics. All for under $800.

How badly would I be messing up by buying this?
At $400, https://www.amazon.com/MINISFORUM-UM773-Lite-Computer-DDR5-4800/dp/B0BYDG76QZ?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1 would be a really good option. I have this very machine and it performs really well. I've played Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on it without issue. At $330, https://www.amazon.com/MINI

New to this.
It’s a bit better. The 7430u is a recent release that uses older tech, so it has the Vega 7 GPU. The 5825u has the Vega 8. That’s still not great by today’s standards, but if the Vega 7 is almost good enough the 8 will be good enough. When you see people using more powerful chips with gpus like the

There are way too many options available, even searching this sub its hard to figure out which I should get for budget PS2 Emulation.
I personally like Minisforum's UM773 Lite. $423 for 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. I run SteamOS on mine with Retrodeck to manage the emulators. Works like an absolute champ.

I like the UM773 Lite. Was definitely a turning point for Minisforum. I'm surprised this late in 2025 that the cost hasn't become competitive, with 7840HS options akin to the native SFF-8612 i4 OCuLink BosGame M4 NEO often being available for less. Curious to know why you settled on SteamOS over Chi

Did I mess up by buying the Minisforum X1 pro instead of MS-A2?
I've got a Minisforum UM773 Lite that I've had running 24/7 for over a year and it's still going strong.

is Minisforum small formfactor PCs any good with Linux ?
I have two Minisforum PCs. I have a UM773 Lite that I bought over two years ago for my work and a UM890 Pro that I bought a year ago for my home. I bought both as barebones models and installed a Ubuntu based distro on them. I have had no major issues with either of them.

My laptop finally went rip, is this a viable option?
Hmm for around that price I found the minisforum UM870 slim. About the same price as the UM773 lite new and also bare bones, I don't necessarily need much storage other than 256gb so long as I can run Windows OS and Opera GX for most, I have no issue running 16gb ram, at this point a potato is most

Opinion on mini pc
I mean it doesn't have to be an insane CPU these modern ryzen mobile cpus hold their own and you wouldn't be running a GPU like 4080 or 5080 because of the limits of running a GPU over oculink or USB 4 Something like this would do good and still play games at 1080p without a GPU and has USB 4 for ex
