Mirrorless D500

Think the d500 is still better in low light autofocus. I found out when mine died on a birding boat ride and switched to the z50 ii backup. Had black birds in shadows that it had trouble with where the d500 had been able to lock on quickly.

Used D7500 or save up for a Z50 as a first real camera

A D7500 won’t feel outdated. It’ll feel familiar and get you decent results. Also, are you talking about the Z50 or the Z50II? The former is not as good as the II, both will have worse battery life than the D7500 (and your D3200). With the Z you get a lighter camera and better autofocus but with wha

Mirrorless equivalent of D7500?

I can break it down spec by spec, but Nikon currently doesn't make a direct replacement for the D7500, it is their current DX (crop sensor) semi-pro body to this day. The Z50II is their current top-end Z mirrorless DX body, and it's a step down in continuous AF tracking as well as top frame rate wit

Mirrorless equivalent of D7500?

People are going to say Z50ii, but it's a side-grade. You're going to get similar image quality and AF performance in a smaller body with better video, but the end result is the same. Sometimes a slightly smaller package is all it takes to encourage you to use your camera more, but you're pretty muc

Looking to upgrade.

Nikon Z50 II and with an FTZ ... Nikkor 18-140 mm f/3.5-5.6, Nikkor 70-300 mm f/4.5-6.3, Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8G, Tokina 10-20 mm f/2.8G I mean, you can do that, but I wouldn't. Simply put, the new 16-50, 18-140, 50-250, and all wide angle options put the older F-mount lenses to shame. An FTZ is an expe

Mirrorless D500

What are the limitations of Z50II on that role? Other than battery life. Want just a few? 10FPS in raw with a bottomless buffer and full speed AF (Z50II does 5.6 and you will hit buffer limits) Dust and weather sealing: the Z50II is parts overlap only, the D500 is sealed to the level of a top pro bo

OM-5 mkii Rumored Specs

No big upgrade needed? Mate, it has worse autofocus than cameras released in 2019. You can pick-up an a6100 and it will smoke the OM-5 for tracking. That is just not acceptable in 2025. For context, the el cheapo R10 and Z50 II both have their respective flagship’s autofocus algorithms, subject dete

From Z6 to D750: dumbest move ever?

You're welcome. When I wanted to upgrade from my Canon M6, I considered buying my friend's Nikon D750 since I have a Nikon SB800 flash, as well as Nikon AF, AF-D, and G lenses that I could use on the D750. The deal breaker was the DSLR's loud shutter. Even though my Canon M6 is a mirrorless camera,

Nikon ZFC or Z50 ii - Looking for a portable alternative to my D7100

I live in raw so I can’t speak to picture profiles. The only one I use is sometimes I’ll shoot in monochrome, which is delightful. I do have the 1.4 VL lenses the 23 and the 33. And while they are both very nice, they are too heavy for the small body in my humble opinion. The auto focus as you proba

Just bought a z50ii, but I hate it. What do I buy?

Your background AF issue is definitely 'user error', and I don't mean that in an offensive way, only that there are ways you can set up the Nikon Z AF system to prevent that. Chances are you're just used to your D500 form using it for what I assume is several years, so everything just works the way
