Advice after top-rope belaying/lowering accident?
belay gloves / assisted braking device (grigri, pilot, giga jul) and you will be totally fine also consider thickness of rope vs size of atc. some are super wide and thinner ropes fly through (BD ATC), some are really skinny (e.g. Petzl reverso) and thick ropes will be almost jammed in there in your

GriGri vs. ClickUp: Why does the GriGri remain the default for beginners when the ClickUp feels more intuitive to me?
Personally, I prefer autotube-style devices (ATC Pilot, Mega Jul, Smart etc.) over the Grigri. The position for holding the device open is far more intuitive and also makes it easier to control the brake strand at the same time. I started with a Giga Jul (it's unfortunately very picky with ropes and

RAD kit - can I do better for the $$?
That rope just seems to be a bit thick. Maximum rated rope size for the GriGri is 11 mm. The 11.7 might feed but it will be a lot tougher to pull through. I climbed with Yale blaze 11 mm rope and it feeds well, and with it being at the maximum end of the rated rope size it never slips even when goin

Left Evac technique
A) NSP, as an educational organization, can’t do anything about your local mountain’s protocol for self evacuation. So there’s no one to report them to there. B) I’d recommend getting a lot of supporting documentation from the manufacturer about proper and improper use of their device. I’ve never he

Need advice on prioritizing alpine / ski touring / ice gear purchases
You dont need 2 pairs of crampons just get the some petzl lynx. Get a avalanch kit and learn how to use it. Dont buy used rope when starting out (pitches are mostly 60m in the alps) Invest in better ice tools from the start or buy em used (Petzl quark is a good start and pretty affordable) a ATC wil

What would be the perfect belay device for you?
Yeah I've heard those complaints too. I think the slack issue petzl tried to solve with the neox, but definitely still far from perfect and is actually a little bit more unreliable than the grigri.

Quick Question about Auto-Blocking Belay devices
6mm sounds awfully thin for a glacier rope, but sounds like the cool kids are doing that these days. I’ve used 7.5s on alpine climbs and it looked like dental floss, but at least it was light! Any sort of thin-rope ATC will work fine for glacier travel use, like the mammut one, petzl, or BD. A grigr

Anyone ever use a fall arrester / ascender on the anchor to protect your belay position instead of the standard rope looped round the anchor and clove hitch to harness?
You would still need to release tension in order to adjust those types of progress capture devices. Maybe use a grigri and tie a backup knot below it when you get your desired position so you can leave the brake side unattended? Depending how much you need to adjust though another commenter mentione
