They are not picky about SSD brand. Just get 500GB to stay away from the 1 TB limit. I used PNY CS900 500GB. If it has not been done, I would replace the battery while you're at it.

These hp laptops from that generation are so nice to work on. I would suggest that you get the t7400 instead, it's like 8-10% less powerful but waaaay cheaper than the t7600, that's the CPU I use on my Compaq nc8430 and it runs pretty great. I use a PNY cs900. You can get a 1tb for $50 on Amazon. I have it installed in my ps2, xbox and xbox360.

It was the SSD. I was using a Crucial BX500 and I found another post of a guy with the same setup having the same issue. For whatever reason, the SSD is completely functional, its just not compatible with OPL. I swapped it out with a PNY CS900 and it works fine now.

PNY CS900 SSD’s, 500gb or 1Tb work well. Cheap too.

Dude, you can get a PNY CS900 1TB SSD for $45 on Amazon. Don’t use an HDD as a boot drive.

I have that same one just different type. Mine is 20AQ. I use a pny cs900 500gb ssd and it runs fine with Linux, hackintosh and windows. Get a sata ssd and a charger and it will serve you well for years to come.
