What in the indoctrination hell is this? Idaho is turning into Iran.

Do not trust any of the YouTube VPNs like Nord, Express, etc. Almost all of them have been involved in some level of breach of privacy. Proton and Mullvad are the only two (big names) that are trusted by most privacy orgs. Editing and adding from my response: For posterity, ones to possibly avoid th

The romanticized version of working from cafes abroad versus what it's actually like

I'm always so confused by these kinds of posts. Like, did these OPs have zero real-world experience coming into this? It's just baffling that someone would be like "Wait, what? My life isn't an Instagram reel? Why didn't someone tell me!" No one should have needed to tell you that, OP. And you don't

Surfshark

Surfshark does not support port forwarding, so it's a poor choice to use with Bittorrent. PIA, Proton, or PureVPN would be better choices, as they support port forwarding.

Moving to Turkey – looking to self-host my own VPN in the US

VPNs are not strictly banned in Turkey, some mainstream ones are but not all of them. I'm using FastestVPN and PureVPN without any issues. Also I have several self hosted wireguard instances which have been working fine for years.

I read one thread about public wifi risks and now I can't stop thinking about it at coffee shops

Every time I use public wifi, I simply use a VPN, but the free ones are usually terrible. Last Black Friday, I purchased one for about $1.70 a month. Since Black Friday is coming up and practically everyone has some campaigns, get a VPN service so you won't have to worry about it. PureVPN works well

Doubt on subscription

Use a VPN with free or paid... I don't know about free version VPNs, but I'm using PureVPN, which is very cheap at 1100 Rs for 2 years validity. and am watching any content without interruption from India's OTT content.

So what VPN you are subscribing to, one that is independent and not controlled by government interests etc? What is the safest and best value for money for the average Australian who will not hand out their Id or biometric data to corporations?

Best value: NordVPN is currently 100% cash back (for 2 years) on ShopBack PureVPN is often 100% (or more than) on TopCashBack Being "free", it wont be the "safest" but it will allow you to get around the biometric/ID requirement. Use an OzBargain random referral code if you sign for TopCashBack or S
