Home security for rural areas

The Ubiquity Unify system, such as with the G5 bullet cameras (I just bough these and used them to replace my old AmCrest system) can be used without WiFi. They’re PoE so you have to wire them all to a Ubiquity wired console/controller that’s then wired to a laptop but then you won’t need WiFi So, I

Need help to modernize my home security camera system

i've torn out a few of those old systems and yeah, those connectors are usually just screw terminals for the 8 wires. you can definitely cut them off and crimp on rj45 ends - just match the t568b standard. once you've got proper ethernet ends, grab a poe switch and you're set. for the unifi side, th

G6 180 seems to be always out of stock

ngl the g6 180 has been brutal to catch. ubiquiti drops small batches every few weeks and they go within hours. setup a distill web monitor or join the r/ubiquitiinstock subreddit for alerts. if you need cameras now the G5 Bullet is usually in stock and covers a backyard fine, just narrower view tha

Doorbell

i feel you on this - ubiquiti door access is more for commercial mag locks, not residential deadbolts. what helped me was just using Yale Assure Lock 2 separately and keeping the G5 Bullet on the porch. you get the video evidence plus a lock that just works. honestly the webhook rigging gets old fas

Solar WiFi to POE bridge?

kinda hacky but i made this work with a 40ah lifepo4 battery, a cheap 100w solar panel, and a poe injector. the g5 instant needs 5w max so it runs for days on that. for your mom's place grab the ubiquiti usw-flex with the solar add-on kit - it accepts 12-48v dc straight from a charge controller. the

What to purchase?

Looks good. Note that you wouldn't need any chimes unless you have a doorbell. I assume that you know that the CloudKey+ is currently on sale from Ubiquiti? The G5 Pro camera is also on sale. It is a better than the G5 Bullet, but is still $70 more per camera with the sale. Also if you were going to

Ubiquiti for medium-sized companies?

We are a medium-sized company, with around 300 employees, 100 machines, and 4 units in different locations. In this new unit, we focused 100% on Ubiquiti, except for storage, which is obtained with a Windows Server File Server. We used a Fortigate 40f, and we had no problems purchasing everything. T

Ubiquiti best security camera solution?

i'd go with G5 Bullets for outside and G5 Domes inside the warehouse - they handle dust better. grab a UNVR (not the pro) for local storage and you're set. turn off cloud remote access in the settings and just use the local protect app. i've set up similar warehouse builds and the G5 series is solid

UNVR-Instant standalone?

yes the unvr-instant runs standalone on any regular network. just plug it into your existing router and adopt cameras through the unifi protect app. remote live feeds work fine over the internet once you enable cloud access. for 3-4 cameras the g5 bullet or g5 dome are solid and easy to mount. you d

Is the CloudKey+ still a good buy (in 2025)?

I run 3 cameras off a CloudKey+ with no issues. G4 Pro Doorbell, G5 Pro and G5 Bullet. Viewing is smooth, only have the default 1TB ssd(all that was available at time of purchase), but that can easily be upgraded. Similar setup, I use OPNsense as my router but really wanted Ubiquiti cameras.
