Df64, upgrade notable?
I have a very similar setup with a Gaggia Classic. I was using a Baratza Sette 30 upgraded with the Sette 270 adjustment ring so I could better dial in my shots. My Sette gearbox died so I leveled up to a DF64 V2 about 3 weeks ago and I can tell you from recent experience it was a great move for me!

Non-single dosing grinder [700$]
At that budget, I’d consider the Baratza Sette 270-Wi, which is already setup for grind by weight. I’ve got the Baratza Vario+, which is good if you want to tinker to hyper-align the burrs, and the grind time seems pretty consistent, but I just single dose with it straight into my portafilter.

Buying Advice Needed: Why am I thinking of buying a new Baratza Vario Plus [$500]
Did you buy it? I've just been through this decision process at the same price point Almost pulled the trigger on a DF64 since that is a relatively hot 'new' thing, but in the end I just didn't want Chinese tech. I am buying Coffee gear to last decades and I just don't trust them to help service/mai

Grinder recommendations [~$350]
Smart Grinder Pro will work and it's comfy with Breville gear, mais niveau constance pour l'espresso pur c'est pas le top comparé à un Sette ou un Mignon. If you can stretch or buy used, look at a Baratza Sette 270 (great for espresso) or an Eureka Mignon model — both have better shot-to-shot stabil

Versatile Grinder Combination to Tackle any Bean? [~$1500]
If you want to save some cash for a conical grinder and increase your flat burr budget, the Baratza Sette 270 is great as a single dose grinder. It's loud as all get out though and some users speak up about gearbox failure. It produces a really fluffy grind and I found it easy to dial in. I replaced

Gonna give Fred a spin for $150, girlfriend hates my VS3
The sette 270wi is amazing for the workflow. Baratza runs several 33% off sales a year you could wait. The regular time dose 270 also is pretty consistent once you dial in the dosage time

New Sette 30 or Used Sette 270 [$230]
My daughter has the sette 270 paired with a Rocket Apartmento. The 270 does its job well, but super loud, with a plastic gearbox that will go out eventually. I’d say she makes 1 or 2 espresso per day and hers died around 3 years. .To be fair, baratza technical support was great, they sent a new gear

Grinders that punch above their weight
Personally, I think the Baratza Sette 270 is a very good value. Very fine gradations (270 settings) that it is almost stepless but it is stepped so you can record specific settings. Relatively low retention - straight grind path. Grinds fine enough for La Pavoni. I've converted ours to single dose a

Baratza ESP Pro vs. Sette 270 [$500]
At that price point, the sette 270 gives you amazing grind quality and speed. The downside is that it sounds like you're drilling into the countertop and the gearbox rips itself apart. I had the 270wi and after about a year of daily use the gearbox was starting to slip and consistently underdosing b
