We replace all laptops with Framework laptops - A one year review
Our 1000 Dell XPS 13 + with their failure rate of 14% in the first 3 months and a further 6% in the next 9 months begs to differ. We literally had a Dell tech in our office more than our actual IT staff. Just a total poo storm. Dell offered us a partial refund to try and keep our business going forw

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage?
The Dell XPS13 was the best implementation of the "small light but not shit" laptop. Always interesting to see what uni students buy: it's their own money, they want to take it everywhere, and they want four years service with no drama. XPS13 was the #1 choice. Now it's MacBook Air M-series.

Your pick for the best overall laptop brand?
I don't trust any of them. I'll have to buy a new laptop in due time because I can't upgrade the RAM. I currently have a dell xps 13 from 2018. It was basically the top of the line one that i got at a black friday deal for 30% off. Had to replace the battery once, which is fine, but now with windows

Looks like Framework Laptops are no longer the only laptops to get 10 out of 10 iFixit repairability score
I would too if they were available in my country....and my 10 year old Dell XPS13 is showing it's age....I've been holding out hoping to get a framework, but I might have to look at the new Lenovos.

Windows on Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is finally what Arm laptops should have been
You're probably right that it being the work provided laptop makes the comparison complicated. But my bare minimum expectation is to not find my laptop dead in my backpack after putting it in sleep. I briefly tried a Lunar Lake powered Dell XPS 13 and compared the app launch times and excel performa

I live in Russia. Let's debunk some myths (or confirm them). AMA.
I also have anecdotes. At the start of the year I bought a Lenovo Yoga 7i laptop and have been plagued with technical issues since, it is maddening. We’re talking lost audio, the touchpad not working every once in a while and trouble connecting to Whatsapp… I’d just moved from a 10 year old Dell XPS

It’s official - I’m starting school in January
get a refurbished dell xps 13 with 16 gb ram as a budget pick, it will get you thru school, and then upgrade to a beefy thinkpad once you’re close to working. congrats on pulling the trigger!!!! that first step changed my life.

Are there any really good Laptops for Linux (Debian)
XPS-13 used to be great, until Dell replaced the line with the overall worse XPS13-Plus design (it's actually Minus). Framework 13 is great. Finding something that can compete with M-chip Macs on battery life is going to be challenging.

Why do people generally buy Carbon X1 when they are so ridiculously expensive?
I bought my X1 Carbon Gen 10 in 2023 not because it's the fastest. I travel a lot usually backpacking for months at a time and weight is a very important consideration. It's also sturdy and well built. Good battery life on Linux. At the time my top contenders were X1 or Dell XPS 13. Having Linux ins

Have you ever used Ubuntu on your XPS?
I have 2 of these XPS 13 9310s. They both came with Ubuntu preinstalled. I have never had a problem with either of them. Ubuntu has been gone for a long time. I run Arch/hyprland on one and Debian Sid with Gnome on the other. I think these are the best Linux laptops.
