I am absolutely lost on what computer to purchase...advice appreciated
Take a look at mini pcs. Small and quiet. RAM and storage can be upgraded on most. I have always built my own PC's but recently bought a GMKTec EVO-T1 and it's been good for what I want it for, which is similar to your use case except I am doing some local AI stuff.
