A Nearfield Desktop System That Shouldn’t Sound This Big

I have two budget versions of this! Three if you count my SO’s office rig. Tidal/Wiim Amp Pro/KEF Q1 Meta/RSL 10S all room corrected and time aligned for system 1. PC/DX5 II/Kali IN-5/Kali WS-12 with light EQ for system 2. They’re both insane near field and neither should sound as good as they do fo

Bought my first big boy set up

I have the Kef Q1 Meta speakers with a Wiim Amp Pro and can confirm that using your layout turns the entire room into a concert stage. It's perfect for my office but have to admit there are pieces of music that makes me stop working.

Where do you position your speakers?

Most speakers are meant to breathe but that’s not always possible. I’m a professional audio engineer and my setup would make most engineers cry with how the speakers are positioned but that’s what I have to work with. My system is in a game room with an odd setup that makes for very different enviro

Sound system recommendations?

So I have the Kef q1 meta’s and an SVS PB-1000 pro sub. The KEF’s are powered by a Wiim amp pro. Total cost of the setup was about $2K. You could do something similar and get the bigger kef speakers to fill your larger room. Love this setup because you can plug in multiple devices and start high qua

Looking to get angle baffled speaker built.

You can run most 2-way speakers turned 90 degrees- on their side. Especially if you’re tilting them up so you’re right on-axis. Kef q1 meta would be good, the coax driver will be great in any orientation. 12” high x 7-1/8” wide would fit your space (turned on its side)

KC62’s crossover or external?

I have a more modest setup than what you’re talking about but unless my experience is unusual, I cannot recommend having the KC62 in the signal chain for your mains. I’m using Q1 Metas for a near field desk setup with a MOTU M2 audio interface for the DAC and a 3e audio A7 stereo amplifier. Without

New install of KEF Q1 Metas in a humble 2.1 stereo-on-a-shelf

OK then! I now prefer the fully-bunged KEF Q1 Metas in combo with the SVS SB-1000 Pro subwoofer at a crossover of 80Hz (all managed at the WiiM Ultra. The bung-filled KEFs no longer produced the ~110Hz SBIR null against the back-wall and ceiling that I had been wrestling with... WiiM RoomFit didn't

Are KEFs extra sensitive to placement?

Recent Kef speakers (including the Q1) have adopted an "extended bass shelf", which is just another way of saying that they are tuned to require boundary reinforcement for normal bass levels. Here's an example of what that looks like. Other speakers are designed to be as flat as possible anechoicall

Advice Needed: Near/Mid-Field Speakers under $700 Upgrading from Edifier MR4 (Active/Passive options)

Active studio monitors (like Kali Audio products) have boundary reinforcement switches. I.e. they have controls to lower the bass if you place the speakers near one or more boundaries (wall, desktop, corner, etc.). That’s not a feature you are going to find in passive speakers or many powered speake
