Easyeffects is a good linux exclusive
you can use it to get the effect of windows-exclusive dolby tuning on linux. you convolve the recording of a gaussian pulse played on windows. so cool! wildly better speakers. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo_ThinkPad_T14_(AMD)_Gen_4 scroll down to speakers
[UPDATE] Qualcomm, fsck you.
Qualcomm consistently doesn't give a shit. Here's yet another example of 37 pages of brokenness that's seemingly impossible to fix: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/QCNFA765-Linux-ath11k-wifi-crippled-high-latency-packet-loss-frequent-disassociations-T14s-AMD/m-p/5252399?page=37
Losing my mind trying to spec out a ThinkPad...
Let's try to clarify things! T14 means T-series model and 14" screen; Letters at the end of the model name - "s" stands for slim, "v" for value, "p" for performance, "g" for graphics; there're some "double agents models" - P14s is T14 (except P14s Gen 5, it's finally a separate model), P16s is T16. ...
Is the Framework 13 right for me?
I've used, thinkpads, macs (including m series), and my framework 13. I would make a recomendation, but I don't know what your budget is, or what you need the laptop to do. Eg, you mention battery life, but I don't know if it's important to you or not when compared to preformance. What I can tell yo...
Best Linux-compatible MacBook Pro alternative in 2025? Dev/sysadmin/cybersec use
Imo there are only a few laptops worth considering with exceptional Linux support, great hardware, keyboard, build quality and battery life. It's basically HP EliteBook or Lenovo ThinkPad (both are amazing well-built laptops): HP EliteBook X G1i/G1a (G1i = Intel, G1a = AMD) To be released this or ne...
Which laptops to avoid buying
Avoid buying a brand new laptops....most of what you are paying for is the ultra thin frame, soldered on ram and non upgradable parts. A older business laptop will be more upgradable, still thin but not ultra thin. If you don't like Lenovo...the dell Latitude or Precision or HP Elitebook or Zbook ar...
Just received my T14s Gen 6 Intel 228V…
This minics my experience. Got a bunch of them with 258V. Performance/efficiency blend is superb. All-workday (9+-hour) battery runtime even with the OLED, 11+-hour battery runtime with the IPS - those are real-life fígures in a corporate environment. Running Windows 10 (LTSC) on them, no bloat issu...
4K and OLED screen?
That doesn't exist new. Thinkpad OLEDs in 14" are all 2.8k (2880*1800) and have been for a few years now. Highest-res 14"(well, 14.5" actually) is P14s Gen5 Intel which has a 3k(3072x1920) IPS display. Can only recommend sticking with one of those (have a bunch of T14s so configured). Lenovo ditched...
Thinkpads under 1000?
Any of the AMD ThinkPad T14/X13 should be fine.
