I’m starting to resent my T480

As a student, you might as well come back to MacBook - brand-new Neo is 850 CAD with education discount, or you should be able to find older M chip Air models under 1000 CAD second hand. You get Microsoft Office IIRC, good battery life, good bright screen (some ThinkPads model configs still somewhat

Repairable and (relatively) small laptop?

What do you mean by repairable? For several years now thinkpads have soldered ram, type c connectors that are so bad, Lenovo had to extremely over engineer in one of the latest models in hopes it won’t lose contact. Anyway, x13 series is the portable one. I have x13 gen 2, I like it. I’ve seen some

X1 nano or others?

Nano are rare and overpriced, at least here in europe. You can go for a "recent" X13 for the small form factor, or even X1 Carbon, it's pricey but if you're considering Framework 13 pro ...If you have budget and don't mind waiting T14 gen 7 intel looks very promising with everything replaceable, pant

My wife thinks that I have a problem

Sooo. I got them all quite cheap. P1 Gen 1 for 100,-, X1 Yoga Gen 5 for 150, X1 Yoga Gen 6 for 200,- and the 2 X13 Gen 3 Yogas for 350,- each (Euros).. The X1 Gen 6 is an upgrade to the Gen 5 (16:10 is more comfortable). Bought them for wifey. I am using the X13s. I bought 2 because the 2nd one was

GEN2 P16S Hinges

This happened with my X13 Gen 2. Both the screen case itself was busted and the hinge had broken in half. I bought a new hinge and the screw holes that were broken off I put back together with metal glue. It was a major pain in the ass, but it's doable.

Right to repair advocate rocking a Thinkpad

Bro realistically no one is gonna want to use a decade or older laptop for today. Even newer ones have soldered ram. Sometimes only one free ram slot, sometimes none at all. I mean I also have a X13 Gen 3, and I like it but the ram is fully soldered

What's your current "dream Thinkpad"?

I currently use an x13 gen 2 with 8gb ram. I dream of having an x13 gen 6 w/ 1tb and 32gb, I can afford it yes, but its just costs too much I think. The ram in my current machine seems to be bottlenecking it, but its soldered. So I might buy a new one and make this a linux box to compliment my homel

Advice on new laptop for the wife

Buy the newest T14 you can buy, your budget should easily get you at least a gen 4. Both amd and intel become quite competitive after the 2nd gen so the difference between them is splitting hairs. X13 is also an option, but you’re going to spend a fair bit more for similar specs, make sure you buy o

Brand New Thinkpad, Hinge Durability?

need a laptop for college and I have no idea if I will end up needing to writes notes digitally so I went with the 2 in 1 just in case. After doing one year with a convertible tablet, it was so much nicer to be able to draw/write (scribble) notes vs typing. I only wish I had my X390 Yoga (X13) vs. t
