Unpopular Opinion - You do not need a light pack

I sorted by bestselling on REI, then picked from the top 4, the things I see on trail most often... this would be representative of a beginner load out from REI, versus a beginner UL load out. I think this is a pretty fair comparison. Osprey Atmos ($340), Half Dome 2 ($299), REI Magma 15 ($429), Nem

Are any other Backpacks as comfortable as the Osprey AG system?

Are any other Backpacks as comfortable as the Osprey AG system?

I love my Osprey Aura AG (circa 2015, fits different than the current model). I can comfortably carry up to about 45lbs, more than the pack is supposed to carry and 1/3 of my body weight, ie a little more than I’m supposed to carry at all. (I don’t carry that much for my own trips — only when workin

Is the Osprey Aura AG LT 65 good?

i've been using osprey for like 3 years now and they're solid, don't let tiktok people get in your head lol. the AG LT series is actually pretty decent for what you're doing - bronze dofe isn't gonna push the pack too hard anyway the accessibility thing is real though, LT models definitely sacrifice

Backpacks with back air gap?

I can suggest the, Osprey Stratos 24 or 34 L, Deuter futura 25 or 32 L. I like the adjustability of the Osprey packs more then the non adjustable frames of the Deuter packs. But it makes them a bit more bulky. For backpacking I really love my Osprey atmos ag 65. While heavier then the exos models it

*HELP* with Beginner Gear List

I'm not the best person for someone on a low budget. I tend to pick the 'top shelf' items (the 'buy once, cry once' camp). But... if I were to recommend some items for a couple getting started with not-big budget... Tent: (shit - there is basically no 3-person backpacking tent under $300 retail that

Backpacks instead of cruiser vests?

I vastly prefer backpacks for marking and layout work, as they allow me to comfortably carry more weight than a vest. Additional tools can be carried in the brain of the backpack, and I always keep a loggers tape attack to the hip belt. In my experience any 50-55L internal frame pack will do the job

Pack recommendations

The ospreys atmos AG 50 is adjustable, you can pick a small and change everything so it fits perfectly and distributes weight perfectly. You pay in a weight penalty but for bad backs the more engineered packs help. Also go see a brain spine specialist, Surgery helped me. But you have to go through t

Hiking with Chronic Pain

I've had chronic pain in my left shoulder ever since I can remember but it only manifests after walking for about an hour, sooner if my pack is quite heavy. Very occasionally if I sit in exactly the same position for an hour it can flare up then as well. Similar to yourself, no amount of physio/stre

Looking for an ideal backpack

From all of my heart I recommend Osprey and Deuter backpacks. You won't get wrong with them, just choose the right model for you - every model has its own purpose. One thing to add from me - I think both brands have, let's say - ultralight and normal versions of the similar model. Ultralight models
