Fast action with dog, which focus should I have used?

A7iii isnt going to track a dog running this close to the camera, unless the dog stays at roughly this distance.

Considering an eye patch - am I crazy?

Ok sounds like I just need more practice. Are you also using "spot expand" focus and do you struggle to ensure the focal point is on your subject while both eyes are open or do you use a different focus method? The reason I ask is missed focus is the issue that bothers me the most but I'm starting t

Leica Q3 Monochrom launched

Yup, imagine it’s just a sensor change, not a AF upgrade. The Q3 AF is ok, but I moved to the Q3 from a Sony A7III and it was noticeably worse. Compared to modern Sony’s it must be awful.

Debating the 24–120 vs. Adapting My Sony Lenses on the Zf

Adapted lenses are okay but not mind blowing. I’d say a7iii type of experience at best. And you can have a pretty good lens for the price of megadap Honestly, sounds like your current Sony body is too cheap for your expectations… se40 isn’t worth a bend over backwards, 40/2.5 is better

Sigma 17-40 f/1.8 for Canon R7?

Agree with your post and your conclusions, even though a Sony a7iii is older than the R7 (worse AF, slower, no 4k60) but still more expensive. At the end of the day you get similar performance for similar prices; but then you might want to add faster primes, wider angles -> FF; or rather tele, macro

Any sports photography settings tips

put the camera in "M" mode, open the aperture up all the way and leave it there, there is no action sports scenario where stopping down is better, for freezing motion in action sports always shoot at 1/800th minimum, but faster is better. use autoiso, but if it gets too high you'll have to compromis

Thoughts and advice between 2 cameras R7 vs Z6 and Z62... Opinions ?

Autofocus will still be better than my current D7000 and I've hit some 'almost' tack sharp hummingbirds and managed to bulzeye a dragonfly in flight, both freehand, single point focus, so I don't think a couple millionths of a second will hurt much 😆 If canon had a better lens selection I think I wo

Canon r6iii

the best sports bargain in all brands is a used a9, i'd suggest finding one... set your a9 up for back-button af. one of the big problems with the a7iii is no sony real-time tracking subject selection, and of course slow sensor readout speed, so electronic shutter isn't much of an option: https://ww

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! May 08, 2026

I have a budget of around $600-$700. What about your lens budget? Nature, Architecture, Street, and Portraits. I care more about the final "look" and resolution of the image than I do about video or high-speed sports. Nature is a really broad term that could include many different types of photograp

The A7iii has a lot of good features, but the autofocus isn't up to modern standards. It's a great landscape body, not a great sports body. If it was my money I'd look at a6400 + https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/sony-alpha-a6400 https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/sigma-18-50mm-f-2-8-dc-dn-contempora
